Heckler & Koch VP70

Heckler & Koch VP70
9x19mm

"VP" from the German for Fully Auto Pistol and "70" from the year it was created, 1970. This was the first composite plastic pistol predating the Glock17 by 12 years.

It was remarkable in that it had an 18 round magazine and the military version came with a plastic stock that not only acted as a holster but allowed the pistol to fire single shots or 3-round bursts. The sights were also unorthodox and with the heavy trigger pull due to it being double-action only, the VP70 was never well received and only ended up in military use in a few countries.
